Rayo Lantern Description
- Brand and History: Rayo was a brand of center-draft kerosene lamps and lanterns manufactured by Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co. and distributed by Standard Oil in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to promote kerosene sales.
- Design and Features: The lantern features a black, powder-coated or painted metal finish and a clear glass globe protected by a wire cage. It typically has a wide base for stability and a bail handle for carrying. The design is known for an advanced airflow system and an extra-tall chimney that produced a bright flame compared to other flat-wick lamps of its era.
- Purpose: Original Rayo lanterns were designed for functionality, serving as reliable non-electric light sources for homes, farms, camping, and emergencies, with some models even having a cooking pot attachment
