The Mustard Seed Collection's Guide to Furniture Painting

How to Paint Furniture with Chalk Paint — Complete Beginner's Guide

Ready to finally paint that piece of furniture you've been putting off?

Whether you've found the perfect thrifted dresser, inherited a piece that needs new life, or simply want to transform furniture you already own, this step-by-step digital guide will help you go from “I have no idea where to start” to confidently completing your own painted furniture project.

I've spent years painting furniture, teaching workshops, helping customers choose paint and finishes, and learning what works — and what doesn't. I created this guide to put that experience in one easy-to-follow place.

Inside the guide, you'll learn:

• How to choose the right piece of furniture to paint

• What supplies you actually need before getting started

• How to properly clean and prepare furniture

• When you need to sand — and when you don't

• Step-by-step furniture painting techniques

• How to get a beautiful, professional-looking finish

• How to properly wax and protect your finished piece

• Common mistakes and how to avoid them

• Tips I've learned from years of painting furniture

• How to plan your project before you ever open the paint can

You'll also receive helpful resources including a Furniture Painting Shopping Checklist so you can keep everything organized from inspiration to the finished piece.

You Don't Have to Be an Artist

One of the things I love most about painting furniture is that you don't have to be an artist or an experienced DIYer to create something beautiful.

You just need to know where to start.

I'll walk you through the process just as I would if you were standing beside me in one of my furniture painting workshops.

So grab that dresser, nightstand, table, cabinet — or that thrift-store find you couldn't leave behind — and let's give it another life.
