Experience the magic of authentic Chinese culinary tradition with this remarkable vintage Yunnan steam pot (气锅 - Qiguo). Handcrafted from prized, unglazed Zitao purple clay (Zisha) native to the Jianshui region, this specialized vessel is designed for making the legendary Yunnan Steam Pot Chicken (Qiguo Ji).
The ingenious design features a hollow internal steam chimney rising from the center of the bowl. To use it, place seasoned meat and aromatics inside without adding a single drop of water. Set the closed vessel over a separate pot of boiling water; steam rises up through the central cone, condenses against the heavy domed lid, and slowly bathes the ingredients in pure, intensely flavorful, condensed distillation broth.
This collector's grade piece features stunning hand-incised white slip calligraphy across the body and delicate plum blossom and bird engravings across the lid. The sides are flanked by two molded primitive mythical beast / lion-mask handles that emphasize its cultural heritage.
